Pura Segara Penimbangan is located on the coast of Panji Vilage, Sukasada. This Hindu temple is a place of worship for the God Batara Baruna, ruler of the ocean. However the temple also links with the history of Ki Gusti Anglurah Panji Sakti, the former famous king of Buleleng.
There is something special that distinguishes this Hindu temple to other Pura Segara on Bali. Pura Segara Penimbangan has a Taksu Pelinggih (shrine) and this media is worshiped by both Hindus and Buddhist.
In this Taksu Pelinggih, you can find a carved stone statue depicted in Chinese style of a fat, bald-headed man with a protruding belly. In meditation he sits cross-legged overlooking the Bali Sea. The figure is like a Lokeswara Buddha. Is said that this statue is a memorial to a ship's captain from China named Dampu Awang who according to historical records state that his ship ran aground on the rocks.
When a ship runs aground legend denotes that a character named Ki Barak who has supernatural powers and a remarkable ability to apply his knowledge will help those in trouble. As dampu Awang's ship run aground Ki Panji Barak showed his ower to overcome the stranded vessel. By pointing his Keris called Ki Baru Semang out to sea and with hysterical screams the rocks were uncovered thus freeing the ship. This is why in the Pura segara Penimbangan a Taksu Pelinngih was build, a chunk of rock was then placed there symbolizing Ki Barak Panji who saved the Dampu Awang's ships.
