At the floor of the volcano's huge caldera is the sickle shaped crater Lake Segara Anakan, surrounded by steep walls. Mount Rinjani is popular with hikers. Sembalun Bumbung and Sembalun Lawang are two traditional Sasak villages on the slopes of Rinjani.
